After more than a decade photographing weddings throughout DFW, we've learned to look at venues differently. We notice the direction of the light, the architecture, the way spaces transition throughout the day, where we could create portraits after dark and the unexpected corners that might become something completely different through the camera.

The venues in this guide are different from the locations you'll find throughout our real wedding portfolio.

We haven't photographed a wedding at these venues yet.

They're here because something about each one caught our attention.

Some have extraordinary architecture. Others combine art, design, skyline views, gardens or historic character in ways that immediately make us think about photography.

We're not simply looking for the most expensive wedding venues in Dallas.

What catches our attention is possibility.

We're constantly asking ourselves one question:

What could we create here that we haven't created anywhere else?

Hôtel Swexan — Dallas, Texas

There are wedding venues that catch our attention because of one beautiful room.

Hôtel Swexan caught our attention because of how many completely different environments exist within one property.

Located in Dallas' Harwood District, the hotel combines European-inspired design, dramatic interiors and sophisticated event spaces with floor-to-ceiling windows. Its wedding spaces include two grand ballrooms and three private event rooms, creating several possibilities for a wedding day without leaving the property.

Why Hôtel Swexan Is on Our Radar

From a photographer's perspective, we're always looking for contrast and variety.

Beautiful window light can give us one look during the day. Refined interiors and architectural details can create something completely different for portraits. And once natural light disappears, a property like this immediately makes us think about what could be created using intentional off-camera lighting.

We haven't photographed a wedding at Hôtel Swexan yet and that's exactly why it's on this list.

It's the kind of venue that makes us want to walk in without trying to recreate someone else's photographs, study the light and architecture, and create something specifically for the couple standing in front of us.

What We'd Be Looking For as Photographers

If we photographed a wedding at Hôtel Swexan, we'd be paying particular attention to the window light, architectural lines, transitions between the different interior spaces and opportunities to create something dramatically different after dark.

More than finding one “signature photo spot,” we'd want to use the different environments throughout the property to create variety across the entire wedding gallery.

HALL Arts Hotel — Dallas Arts District

Some venues give you beautiful architecture.

HALL Arts Hotel gives us something else we're always looking for as photographers: layers.

Located in the heart of the Dallas Arts District, the hotel brings contemporary art, modern architecture, large windows, city views and outdoor space together in one environment. Its wedding spaces range from the Grand Hall and intimate Sculpture Hall to galleries filled with artwork and an outdoor Urban Garden.

Why HALL Arts Hotel Is on Our Radar

What interests us most about HALL Arts Hotel is the relationship between the wedding and everything surrounding it.

The artwork doesn't have to simply become a background. The architecture doesn't have to simply frame the couple. The windows, reflections, sculptures, city environment and changing light could all become elements of the photographs themselves.

And then there's the Dallas Arts District outside the hotel.

Being surrounded by some of Dallas' most recognizable modern architecture creates another layer of possibilities beyond what happens inside the wedding spaces.

We haven't photographed a wedding at HALL Arts Hotel yet, but it's exactly the type of location where we'd want to slow down, explore and look for compositions that aren't immediately obvious.

What We'd Be Looking For as Photographers

The floor-to-ceiling windows immediately make us think about natural light, reflections and silhouettes.

The hotel's art collection creates opportunities to incorporate color, shape and texture into portraits rather than relying only on traditional wedding backgrounds.

And once we step outside, the surrounding Dallas Arts District opens an entirely different visual direction modern architecture, city lines and an urban environment that could contrast beautifully with the elegance of the wedding itself.

Hall of Lights Wedding Venue — Carrollton, Texas

Hall of Lights immediately caught our attention because light isn't simply part of the venue it's part of its identity.

Located in Carrollton, Texas, this modern Dallas–Fort Worth wedding venue combines contemporary architecture, floor-to-ceiling glass, indoor and outdoor ceremony options and one of the most distinctive reception spaces we've seen in the area.

But what makes us curious as photographers is the contrast.

Why Hall of Lights Is on Our Radar

The main event hall features 16-foot floor-to-ceiling windows, creating the potential for beautiful natural light and changing reflections throughout the day. Then, as daylight disappears, the experience changes completely beneath the venue's dramatic ceiling of lights.

That's exactly the kind of transition we love on a wedding day.

But Hall of Lights wedding photography wouldn't have to be limited to the reception space.

The property also offers the Magnolia Amphitheater and Plaza of Angels for outdoor ceremonies, while the architecture surrounding St. Sarkis creates a completely different visual environment just steps away.

Those contrasts are what put Hall of Lights on our radar.

What We'd Be Looking For as Photographers

If we photographed a Hall of Lights wedding, we'd be watching how the light moves through those large windows throughout the afternoon and how the architecture changes as we move around the property.

We'd also be thinking ahead to sunset.

Instead of creating one collection of portraits that all feels the same, we'd want to move from clean natural-light wedding photography during the day into something much more dramatic once the reception begins.

And the architecture surrounding the property gives us another opportunity we always look for: creating photographs that immediately feel connected to the venue where the wedding actually happened.

The Venue at 400 North Ervay - Downtown Dallas

That's the contrast that immediately put The Venue at 400 North Ervay on our radar.

Located in the heart of downtown Dallas, this wedding venue sits inside the historic U.S. Post Office and Courthouse building, originally built in 1930. Instead of feeling like one traditional event space, the property combines distinctive historic interiors with an outdoor rooftop overlooking the city.

For wedding photography, those two environments could tell completely different parts of the same story.

Why The Venue at 400 North Ervay Is on Our Radar

We're always attracted to wedding venues that give us contrast without requiring the couple to leave the property.

At 400 North Ervay, the historic interior brings character, architectural details and a sense of old Dallas, while the rooftop creates an entirely different environment surrounded by the downtown skyline.

That opens up possibilities throughout the wedding day.

Elegant indoor portraits could feel timeless and architectural. A rooftop ceremony could incorporate the city itself. Sunset could transform the skyline, and after dark we'd have another opportunity to combine the lights of downtown Dallas with our own creative lighting.

Inside, we'd be looking closely at the historic architectural details, lines, textures and available light rather than treating the interior simply as a backdrop.

Outside, the approach would change.

The rooftop gives us an opportunity to incorporate downtown Dallas into the wedding photography especially as daylight transitions into sunset, blue hour and the city lights at night.

We'd also be watching how the couple moves between those environments throughout the day. Instead of creating photographs that could have been made at any Dallas wedding venue, we'd want the final gallery to make it obvious that this wedding happened at 400 North Ervay.

Fairmont Dallas Wedding Venue — Downtown Dallas

A luxury hotel wedding in downtown Dallas gives us something we always appreciate as photographers: the opportunity to create an entire wedding story without every photograph looking like it came from the same place.

Fairmont Dallas sits in the Dallas Arts District and offers everything from grand ballroom celebrations to rooftop spaces overlooking the city.

That combination immediately puts it on our radar.

Why Fairmont Dallas Is on Our Radar

What interests us about Fairmont Dallas wedding photography is the scale and variety available within the property and what exists immediately outside it.

Inside, the hotel offers large formal event spaces, including the Regency Ballroom, creating the opportunity for elegant ballroom wedding photography and dramatic reception images.

Outside, we're in the heart of downtown Dallas and the Arts District.

That means the visual story doesn't necessarily have to stop at the hotel doors.

The surrounding architecture, city streets and Dallas skyline could give us opportunities to create a completely different set of portraits while still keeping the wedding connected to its location.

What We'd Be Looking For as Photographers

If we photographed a wedding at Fairmont Dallas, we'd be thinking about how to make each part of the day visually different.

During the day, we'd look for available light, architectural lines and quieter locations for portraits.

As the celebration moves into the ballroom, we'd shift toward controlled lighting that allows us to preserve the atmosphere of the reception while creating photographs with more depth and dimension.

And if the timeline gives us the opportunity, we'd absolutely be watching the sky.

A rooftop terrace with views of downtown Dallas creates the possibility of transitioning from daylight to sunset, blue hour and eventually the lights of the city giving one wedding gallery several completely different visual looks.

Warwick Melrose Dallas Wedding Venue — Oak Lawn

Some Dallas wedding venues are designed to feel new.

Warwick Melrose Dallas caught our attention for the opposite reason.

Originally opened in 1924, this historic Dallas hotel brings more than a century of character into a modern luxury wedding experience. Its classic architecture, elegant ballrooms and location along Oak Lawn give couples something increasingly difficult to recreate: a wedding that can feel connected to an earlier era of Dallas without giving up the experience of a full-service luxury hotel.

From a photography perspective, that combination has our attention.

Why Warwick Melrose Dallas Is on Our Radar

What makes us curious about Warwick Melrose wedding photography is the opportunity to create photographs that feel timeless without making them feel predictable.

The hotel offers several visually different wedding environments.

The Turtle Creek Ballroom provides the scale for a larger celebration, with a pillarless 5,500-square-foot space and 16-foot ceilings.

The Crystal Ballroom moves in another direction, bringing chandeliers and a more traditional historic ballroom atmosphere.

Then there's the Bridewell Suite and its open-air terrace, giving us another opportunity to work with a more intimate environment and outdoor light.

For us, that variety matters.

A wedding gallery becomes much more interesting when the getting-ready photographs, portraits, ceremony and reception don't all depend on the same visual background.

If we photographed a Warwick Melrose Dallas wedding, we'd want the history of the property to actually become part of the photographs.

We'd be looking for architectural details, symmetry, layers, window light and those smaller pieces of the hotel that immediately communicate its character.

But we wouldn't want the entire wedding gallery to feel traditional.

That's where lighting becomes especially interesting.

Inside the ballrooms, we'd look for opportunities to combine the existing chandeliers and atmosphere with intentional off-camera lighting, allowing us to preserve the elegance of the room while creating photographs with more depth and drama.

It already has it.

For couples searching for a historic wedding venue in Dallas, an Oak Lawn wedding venue, a luxury Dallas hotel wedding or an elegant ballroom reception, Warwick Melrose offers a combination of character and celebration spaces that immediately gives photographers something to work with.

We haven't photographed a wedding at Warwick Melrose Dallas yet.

But that's exactly why it's on our radar.

We already know what the building looks like.

What interests us is discovering what it could look like through our cameras when the right couple, the right light and the right wedding day finally come together.

Hotel ZaZa Dallas Uptown Wedding Venue

Hotel ZaZa Dallas Uptown doesn't feel like a wedding venue that's trying to blend in.

And that's exactly why it caught our attention.

Located in Uptown Dallas, ZaZa combines boutique-hotel personality, bold interiors, ballroom spaces, outdoor poolside celebrations and views of the Dallas skyline. Instead of giving us one dominant visual style, the property seems designed around contrast.

For photographers, that's where things can get interesting.

Why Hotel ZaZa Dallas Uptown Is on Our Radar

What makes us curious about Hotel ZaZa Dallas wedding photography is personality.

There are plenty of beautiful wedding venues where the safest approach would be to create elegant, traditional portraits.

ZaZa makes us want to do something different.

The Uptown Ballroom overlooks the hotel's poolside lounge and Dallas skyline, creating opportunities to incorporate the city into the wedding story.

Then there are smaller spaces like the Muse Room, with its private balcony overlooking Dallas, and the Red Room, where antique wood and vintage details create an entirely different atmosphere.

And outside, Poolside changes the visual language again.

That's the kind of variety that makes us start thinking before we've even walked through the doors.

We'd look for bold colors, reflections, unusual compositions, architectural lines and interior details that could become part of the photographs.

During the day, we'd pay attention to available light and opportunities around the hotel and Uptown Dallas.

Around sunset, we'd start looking toward the skyline.

And once the sun disappears, we'd want to push the photography in another direction completely.

And the personality throughout the hotel gives us opportunities to create photographs that feel editorial without losing the real moments happening throughout the wedding day.

That's what we'd want a Hotel ZaZa Dallas wedding gallery to become not one visual idea repeated all day, but a collection of photographs that changes as the celebration changes.

Perot Museum Wedding Venue — Dallas, Texas

Most wedding venues give photographers beautiful spaces.

The Perot Museum of Nature and Science gives us something completely different: a building, an experience and an environment that were never originally designed to look like a traditional wedding venue.

And that's exactly why it's on our radar.

Located in Dallas, the Perot Museum offers weddings and receptions throughout its multilevel space, giving couples the opportunity to celebrate among modern architecture, glass, science exhibits and some of the most recognizable contemporary design in the city.

From a photography perspective, there is almost nothing traditional about it and we love that.

Why the Perot Museum Is on Our Radar

What immediately interests us about Perot Museum wedding photography is the opportunity to create images that couldn't easily be mistaken for another Dallas wedding venue.

The museum's glass-encased Main Lobby can host receptions surrounded by modern architectural elements, while the different exhibit levels introduce completely different environments throughout the building.

Couples can even celebrate among gems and minerals, engineering exhibits or dinosaurs.

That kind of variety completely changes the way we'd approach photographing a wedding.

Instead of searching for the traditional staircase, ballroom or garden, we'd be looking at geometry, reflections, glass, scale, exhibits, negative space and the interaction between the couple and the architecture around them.

What We'd Be Looking For as Photographers

If we photographed a wedding at the Perot Museum, we'd want to make the architecture part of the story.

Wide compositions would be especially important.

Rather than photographing every portrait closely, we'd intentionally step back and allow the scale and geometry of the museum to surround the couple.

Then we'd look for the opposite.

Reflections in the glass. Interesting pockets of light. Strong architectural lines. Silhouettes. Layers created by the exhibits. Smaller compositions that someone walking through the building might never notice.

Instead of fighting the unusual architecture, we'd want to exaggerate it.

This is probably the biggest reason the Perot Museum made our list.

If a couple chooses to get married inside a science and nature museum, we don't think the photographs should make it look like they chose a traditional hotel ballroom.

The location should matter.

A Perot Museum wedding gallery should feel connected to the building, the exhibits, the architecture and the experience their guests had that night.

We haven't photographed a wedding at the Perot Museum yet.

But for couples searching for a unique wedding venue in Dallas, a modern Dallas wedding venue, a museum wedding or an alternative to a traditional ballroom celebration, this is one of the places we'd be genuinely excited to explore through our cameras.

Because sometimes the most interesting wedding photographs begin with a location that wasn't created for wedding photographs at all.

The French Farmhouse Wedding Venue — Collinsville, Texas

There are venues where the building is the story.

At The French Farmhouse Venue, what catches our attention is everything surrounding it.

Located in Collinsville, Texas, on 56 acres of North Texas countryside, The French Farmhouse combines a French-inspired estate, a white chapel, mature trees, manicured grounds and architectural pieces collected from around the world.

It's about an hour north of Dallas and only about 30 minutes north of Denton but visually, it feels very different from a traditional Dallas wedding venue.

That's what put it on our radar.

Why The French Farmhouse Is on Our Radar

From a photographer's perspective, one of the first things we notice about The French Farmhouse is how many different environments could potentially become part of one wedding gallery.

The chapel alone gives us plenty to think about.

Soaring cathedral ceilings, exposed wooden beams, crystal chandeliers and floor-to-ceiling windows create an environment where natural light and architecture could work together during the ceremony.

Then you step outside.

The property opens into acres of mature trees, landscaping and countryside, giving us room to create environmental portraits where the couple doesn't always have to fill the entire frame.

And then there's the reception hall.

With cathedral ceilings, chandeliers, large windows and an ornate French fireplace, the visual language changes again.

For us, that's important.

We don't want 100 beautiful photographs that all look like they were created in the same corner of a wedding venue.

We want variety.

What We'd Be Looking For as Photographers

If we photographed a wedding at The French Farmhouse, we'd probably start by paying attention to something we can't control: the direction and quality of the light.

Those large chapel windows could create beautiful natural-light opportunities, but we'd also be watching how the light changes throughout the ceremony and where it falls on the couple.

Outside, we'd want time to explore.

With 56 acres, mature trees and open North Texas surroundings, we'd be looking for depth, layers and locations where we could allow the landscape to become part of the photograph.

Then we'd wait for sunset.

A countryside wedding venue gives us something downtown Dallas can't.

If the sky cooperates, we'd want to use that openness to create large environmental portraits where the landscape, sky and couple all become part of the composition.

From French-Inspired Elegance to Cinematic Night Portraits

What really interests us is what happens when the natural light disappears.

During the day, The French Farmhouse could lend itself beautifully to soft, romantic wedding photography.

At night, we'd want to change the mood completely.

The chapel exterior, farmhouse architecture, trees and open grounds could become the foundation for something much more dramatic using intentional off-camera lighting.

That's one of our favorite transitions to create on a wedding day:

Couples searching for The French Farmhouse wedding photography are probably going to see plenty of beautiful photographs of the chapel, reception hall and grounds.

What we'd want to discover is what else is possible.

Which corner changes when the sun gets lower?

What happens when we photograph through the trees instead of in front of them?

How does the chapel look after dark?

What happens when we stop looking for the obvious photo location and start looking at the property differently?

We haven't photographed a wedding at The French Farmhouse Venue yet.

But for couples searching for a French-inspired wedding venue in North Texas, a Collinsville wedding venue, a wedding venue near Denton or an estate-style Dallas–Fort Worth wedding surrounded by countryside, this is one we'd genuinely love the opportunity to photograph.

Because a property with this much variety shouldn't produce photographs that look like everyone else's.

Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek Wedding Venue — Dallas, Texas

Some Dallas wedding venues impress because they're grand.

Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek interests us for something more difficult to create: character that has been built over generations.

Known simply as The Mansion by many in Dallas, this historic Turtle Creek estate combines Italian Renaissance architecture, intimate residential details, manicured gardens and elegant indoor wedding spaces within one of the city's most recognizable luxury properties.

It's refined without feeling like a traditional hotel ballroom.

And from a wedding photography perspective, that immediately gets our attention.

Why Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek Is on Our Radar

What makes us curious about Mansion on Turtle Creek wedding photography is the opportunity to create photographs that feel connected to Dallas while still feeling almost European in character.

Outside, the Mansion Lawn & Garden is surrounded by greenery and mature magnolia trees, with the historic estate creating a completely different atmosphere from a modern downtown Dallas wedding venue.

Inside, the visual language changes.

The Promenade brings natural light through Palladian windows before flowing into the European-style Pavilion Ballroom.

Then there are the smaller architectural details throughout the historic mansion ,the kinds of spaces we love because they don't immediately tell you where the photograph should be taken.

They make us search for it.

What We'd Be Looking For as Photographers

If we photographed a Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek wedding, our first instinct wouldn't be to find the most popular portrait location.

We'd want to understand how the property changes throughout the day.

In the morning and afternoon, we'd watch how natural light moves through the interiors and windows.

Outside, we'd use the gardens, architecture and layers of greenery to create portraits that feel connected to the estate rather than simply placing the couple in front of it.

We'd also look closely at the smaller details.

Doorways. Arches. Windows. Symmetry. Reflections. Textures. The transition between interior and exterior spaces.

Sometimes those quieter elements become more interesting photographically than the obvious grand location.

The Mansion Lawn, Gardens & Dallas Light

The outdoor environment may be one of the things we'd be most excited to explore.

The Mansion Lawn & Garden offers more than 9,000 square feet of outdoor space surrounded by gardens and magnolia trees.

For us, that creates possibilities throughout several parts of the wedding day.

A ceremony could feel intimate and surrounded by greenery.

Portraits could incorporate the estate architecture without allowing it to overpower the couple.

And as the Texas sun gets lower, we'd start looking for light moving through the trees and across the building.

That's usually when a location begins showing us photographs we couldn't have planned earlier in the day.

And Then We'd Wait Until Dark

A historic estate shouldn't only be photographed during daylight.

After dark, we'd want to see what happens when we combine the Mansion's architecture with intentional off-camera lighting.

Instead of trying to make nighttime look like daytime, we'd embrace the darkness.

Warm interior light through the windows. The shape of the historic building. Trees creating layers around the couple. Architectural elements disappearing into shadow.

That's where we'd want to create something completely different from the softer photographs made earlier in the day.

For couples searching for a Mansion on Turtle Creek wedding photographer, a Rosewood Mansion wedding, a luxury wedding venue in Dallas, a historic Dallas wedding venue or an elegant garden wedding in Turtle Creek, this is a property we'd genuinely love the opportunity to photograph.

But that's part of what makes the possibility exciting.

Located in Uptown Dallas, the property combines manicured gardens, elegant ballrooms, terraces, natural-light spaces and elevated city views within one luxury hotel experience.

From a photographer's perspective, that variety creates possibilities.

Why Hotel Crescent Court Is on Our Radar

What interests us about Hotel Crescent Court wedding photography is the transition between environments.

The Courtyard Garden gives couples an outdoor ceremony option surrounded by greenery in the middle of the city, while the adjoining Garden Room brings in natural light through floor-to-ceiling windows.

Move upstairs and the experience changes again.

The Gallery Ballroom combines natural light with access to an outdoor terrace, while the Crescent Ballroom offers a more formal setting with silk-lined walls and an elegant ballroom atmosphere.

The Nasher Sculpture Center gives us something much more interesting: art, architecture and nature interacting in the same space.

Located on Flora Street in the Dallas Arts District, the Nasher combines light-filled modern architecture with an outdoor sculpture garden, reflecting pools, mature trees and works of modern and contemporary art.

For us, that isn't simply a beautiful place to photograph a wedding.

It's a place that could completely change how we think about photographing one.

Why the Nasher Sculpture Center Is on Our Radar

What interests us most about Nasher Sculpture Center wedding photography is composition.

When art is already part of the environment, we don't want to simply place a couple beside a sculpture and take a photograph.

We'd want to think more intentionally.

How can the lines of the architecture frame them?

Can a reflection become part of the composition?

Can the negative space around a sculpture make the couple feel smaller and the environment feel larger?

Can the trees, pathways and artwork create layers instead of simply becoming a background?

Those are the kinds of questions that make a venue exciting to us.

The Nasher Sculpture Garden

The outdoor Sculpture Garden may be one of the spaces we'd be most interested in exploring.

The garden combines landscaping, trees, pathways, water features and major works of sculpture within the middle of downtown Dallas.

That's an unusual combination.

It means we could potentially create photographs surrounded by greenery that feel quiet and intimate, then turn around and create something much more architectural or artistic without leaving the property.

We'd also be watching the light carefully.

As sunlight moves through the trees and across the sculptures, locations that looked ordinary earlier in the afternoon could become completely different near sunset.

That's usually where some of our favorite photographs begin.

What We'd Be Looking For as Photographers

If we photographed a Nasher Sculpture Center wedding, we'd want to resist the temptation to photograph everything from eye level.

A location like this makes us want to experiment.

Photograph low and let the architecture dominate the frame.

Step farther away and make the couple part of the landscape.

Use reflections.

Look through architectural elements.

What immediately interests us about Union Station Dallas wedding photography is scale.

This isn't a venue where we'd want to photograph everything tightly.

The architecture deserves room.

The Grand Hall, soaring ceilings, columns and historic details create opportunities for photographs where the couple becomes part of a much larger composition.

That's a very different approach from photographing an intimate garden wedding or a modern hotel.

Here, we'd want the building to have a voice in the photographs.

What We'd Be Looking For as Photographers

Located on McKinney Avenue in Uptown Dallas, the hotel combines large-scale ballroom celebrations, sophisticated interiors, natural light and immediate access to one of the most recognizable areas of the city.

But the name alone isn't what puts it on our radar.

It's the photographic possibilities behind it.

What interests us about Ritz-Carlton Dallas wedding photography is the opportunity to create something that feels luxurious without allowing the photographs to become predictable.

The Ritz-Carlton Ballroom gives us enormous scale.

This is where we'd want to push the photography further.

With intentional lighting, those environments could become the foundation for something much more cinematic.

We wouldn't need twenty nighttime portraits.

Sometimes we only need a few minutes and one photograph that feels completely different from everything else in the wedding gallery.
