Photographing this wedding gave us the opportunity to use completely different environments throughout the day—from the warm wood and dramatic interiors of the hotel to the elegant ballroom, downtown portraits outside The Adolphus, and a reception filled with movement and energy.
For us, photographing a wedding here isn't simply about using a beautiful hotel as a backdrop. It's about understanding how to use the architecture, available light, flash, reflections, and the different spaces throughout The Adolphus to create photographs that still feel personal to the couple.

Instead of relying on one beautiful location, we can use each part of the hotel differently depending on the couple, the light, and the feeling we want the photograph to have.
For this wedding, some of our favorite portraits came from embracing those contrasts. We created romantic images in the darker interiors, used the hotel's architecture for more dramatic portraits, and then stepped outside for photographs that immediately brought downtown Dallas into the story.

One thing we especially appreciate as photographers is how the room changes throughout the evening. Before guests enter, we can photograph the full reception design, tables, florals, cake and smaller details. Once the celebration begins, the same space becomes the backdrop for entrances, speeches, the first dance and a packed dance floor.

At this Adolphus wedding, the ballroom went from an elegant reception space to a completely different environment once the celebration started. Speeches brought everyone together, the first dance opened the evening, and before long the dance floor was packed.
This is where lighting becomes especially important. Reception spaces can change dramatically once the house lights come down and the DJ lighting begins. We use our own lighting when needed so we can preserve the atmosphere of the room while still creating sharp, vibrant photographs of the people and moments happening inside it.

Some of our favorite photographs from this wedding came from using the darker interiors, wood tones and architectural elements throughout the hotel. These spaces can create a completely different look from the ballroom.
Save a few minutes for downtown Dallas.
If the timeline and weather allow, stepping outside gives us the opportunity to add the city itself to the wedding story. In only a few minutes, we can move from an elegant hotel portrait to something that unmistakably feels like downtown Dallas.

Couples spend months choosing florals, linens, candles, stationery, the cake and countless other details. Building a small window into the timeline before guests enter allows us to photograph the completed room before the celebration changes it.

For this wedding, the final moments gave us another opportunity to incorporate the character of The Adolphus into the story. Surrounded by their family and friends, the couple made their way down the marble staircase as guests celebrated around them, with the holiday decorations and warm wood interior creating an incredible backdrop.
Instead of treating the exit as simply the last photograph of the night, we look for ways to make it feel connected to everything that came before it—the people, the location and the energy of the celebration.
